John,
There’s so much excitement in the air around November's election, and the choices that are made at the federal, state, and local levels will have enormous impacts on our communities for generations to come.
The Presidency, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, and 33 Senate seats will be up for grabs.
At the same time, we are fighting against some of the most stringent voter suppression laws we have seen in history. In 2024, voters in 28 states will face voter restrictions that were not in place during the 2020 presidential election.1
These laws disproportionately suppress voter turnout from the most marginalized communities—communities of color, low-income communities, LGBTQ+ communities, and rural communities. These anti-democracy laws are a reaction to the historic, multiracial voter turnout we witnessed in the 2020 presidential election and 2022 midterm elections.
As Selene Gomez from VoteRiders said on our recent voter engagement webinar:
“About 15% of voters do not have an unexpired driver’s license or state ID with their current name or address on it… translating it into 2020 census numbers, that is more than 34.5 million people.”
This is why the work we’re doing to empower voters is so critical. Already this year, through our collective action, we have worked with our partners to engage infrequent voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin to ensure they have all the information they need to cast their ballots this November.
Now, with your help, we need to expand our Vote for Human Needs campaign and make sure advocates on the ground in key states have what they need to make sure that people who are eligible to vote can overcome barriers to voting and can participate fully in our democracy.

1 Voting Laws Roundup: May 2024
-- DOMINIQUE'S EMAIL --
John,
We are living through one of the most historic presidential elections in our nation's history―and there’s excitement in the air!
People across the country are fired up and ready to do what it takes to defend our democracy. From last week's voter engagement webinar to next week's upcoming letter-writing party, we're providing everyday people and on-the-ground organizations with the tools to reach infrequent voters in the states that will determine the outcome of the 2024 election.
On our recent webinar, Courtney Cooperman from the National Low Income Housing Coalition drew connections between the issues we’re fighting for and the right to vote:
“The connection between housing justice, and economic justice more broadly, and democratic participation are incredibly clear. Just like housing, voting is a social determinant of health. Research shows that civically engaged communities are healthier communities.”
We’re ensuring that everyday people know what’s at stake―including countering the incredibly dangerous Project 2025―in our fight for human needs for seniors, children, people with disabilities, low-income communities, and communities of color.
Power our Vote for Human Needs campaign with a donation of $5 today to keep the momentum going and turn out infrequent voters in pivotal states this election.
