"Day one, they want to fire the best National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) general counsel we’ve had in my lifetime, Jennifer Abruzzo," writes Jenny Brown. "Then Project 2025 foresees reclassifying thousands of civil service employees by executive order so they can be fired and replaced with the corporations’ loyal troops. From there, the plan is to bulldoze the protections US workers have built up over one hundred years of determination, sacrifice, and unity. It’s ugly: abolish overtime pay laws, outlaw public sector unions entirely, get rid of health and safety protections, eliminate the federal minimum wage, make it harder to receive unemployment, and put children back to work like in the 1920s. Hitting building trades workers, they would get rid of requirements for prevailing wage pay and project labor agreements in federal projects. There’s more. They want to get rid of the Department of Education. Ban teaching women’s history and African American history in schools — lest we get ideas about how to change things! Ban abortion nationwide." Even one of the things on this list would be enough to spend every waking hour from here until November fighting for Vice-President Harris and making sure this appalling vision of American dystopia never comes to pass.

JD Vance doesn't want all women to be trad wives, just white women
Renee Bracey Sherman, Teen Vogue: The ostensibly "trad wife" of JD Vance has a vision for America that depends on the labor of women of color, particularly Black women. The "trad wife" trend has become a TikTok sensation thanks to right-wing influencers selling a seductive and hollow vision of femininity that revolves largely around caring for children, cooking, and wearing cute sundresses. That gilded cage has now become a central part of the Republican ideology, as evidence by Trump VP nominee JD Vance's hostility towards childless women, who he derides as "cat ladies," his statements about how battered women should remain in abusive marriages for the kids' sake, and his fervent opposition to any kind of social childcare program that would give women the time to have their own careers. But that back-to-the-50s vision of America glosses over the even darker exploitation that fueled the trad wife lifestyle — the labor of Black and brown women. "Between the forced separation of families through systems like slavery, migration, and mass incarceration, and jobs paying low wages, Black and Brown women have largely always had to work to provide for their families. There never was a trad wife moment for most women of color, particularly not one that could be glorified. The right to stay-at-home motherhood was never a real option," writes Sherman. "People like Vance are laying out a vision for white cis women, which includes a place in society bolstered by the subjugation of Black and Brown cis and trans women, as well as nonbinary individuals. It’s one where white women — or women who conform to white Christian values — are given a certain place, while continuing to capitalize off the labor of people of color."

Judith Levine, The Guardian: It was entirely predictable that the GOP would explode into a frothing mass of hysterical rage and disgusting bigotry at the passing of the torch from Joe Biden to Kamala Harris, a Black and Asian woman, but it's been much, much uglier than one would expect in 2024. "DEI hire." "Welfare queen." "Not really black." "Was she even born here?" "Slut." All these attacks and more have been pushed by the right-wing at every level, from Trump and his Vice-President to midlevel propagandists like Matt Walsh and Megyn Kelly all the way down to the most bottom-dwelling social media slugs like Laura Loomer. "This stuff is vile to watch. But as with drained pus, it’s got to be exposed to the air. Because it’s not just talk. It reveals what a Trump presidency would mean. By exposing what’s festering barely under the skin of Trumpism, the Republican party is telling us to vote against him," writes Judith Levine. "Hatred will continue to ooze from their mouths. Disgusting as it, pay attention. Because sexism and racism are not just talk. They’re policies – the calamitous policies a Trump presidency augurs."
