Dear Friend, As we are physically distancing for COVID-19, our 50th anniversary Earth Day actions have moved online throughout April. Today, April 23, is the National Day of Action to Stop the Money Pipeline for fossil fuels! As a member of the Stop the Money Pipeline coalition, Green America is mobilizing pressure on two financiers of fossil fuel infrastructure – JPMorgan Chase Bank and Liberty Mutual insurance company. Take action today for Earth Day to stop fossil fuel financing! Why these two companies? JPMorgan Chase is the worst bank in the world for the climate – far surpassing every other bank in funding fossil fuels by a whopping 36% over the last three years. Chase has plowed $268 billion into exacerbating the climate emergency even as scientists affirm how few years we have remaining to prevent the most catastrophic climate crises. Liberty Mutual is among the top US insurers of fossil fuels. The company insures fossil fuel projects both in the US and around the world – and worsens the climate crisis by investing its premiums in fossil fuel companies and utilities to the tune of $8 billion. In a 2019 report published by climate activists internationally, Liberty Mutual received the lowest score of 30 global insurance companies for its climate policies. There’s not a moment to lose – we need to stop bankrolling and insuring fossil fuels now! Take action for Earth Day to stop fossil fuel financing! For the Earth, |
