Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

It was another busy week in Washington! I would like to encourage you to share this newsletter with others. Please direct them using this link and encourage them to subscribe.

Lesko in Committee

Duplicative work during nuclear plant safety inspections greatly costs the American people and creates more headaches for inspectors. That’s why as part of the ADVANCE Act, I introduced legislation to ensure these inspections are done as efficiently as possible.

I was excited to hear how that legislation is working to improve efficiency at this week’s Energy and Commerce Committee Energy Subcommittee Hearing on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's FY25 Budget!

Hear me ask Consumer Product Safety Commissioner Trumpka why he tweeted that he supported actions to phase out gas stoves on his official Twitter account before the commission even made a safety determination. Thankfully, my Save our Gas Stoves Act helped stop the Biden/Harris Administration’s efforts to ban gas stoves!

Insane Biden/Harris mandates and policies are powering down, rather than powering up, Arizona.

We need reliable, cost-effective energy sources that can actually handle the large electrical needs of Arizona, not more green handouts and climate propagandized policy agendas.

Lesko on the Floor

I was honored to attend Prime Minister Netanyahu’s joint address to Congress this week.

His courage in the face of adversity and powerful words were an inspiration for us all to continue to stand up in the fight against evil. America stands with Israel.

Lesko Legislative Update

This week, the House passed an appropriations bill for the Department of the Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It included many conservative wins including a 20% reduction to the EPA's budget. The EPA is unwisely spending taxpayer money with burdensome regulations like electric vehicle mandates.

Another piece of legislation I was proud to vote in favor of this week was a resolution to condemn Vice President Kamala Harris for her role in the border crisis. Her complacency, and at times downright collusion, in allowing the migrant crisis we have seen at our Southern Border is unacceptable and created catastrophic consequences for communities across the country. This resolution was not just supported by House Republicans, in fact, 6 Democrats crossed party lines in favor of condemning her failure. This should not be an issue of Democrats vs Republicans, this should be an issue of national security.

Get the Facts: Getting Answers from the Secret Service

This week, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle testified before the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability to inform Congress and the American people about the ongoing investigation into the assassination attempt against President Trump and provide context and explanations for what occurred. She accomplished none of those things. Over the course of her hours long testimony, she provided very few answers, nearly no explanations, and united both sides of the aisle in calls for her to resign. While many members expressed frustrations about the lack of detail and incomplete answers provided by Director Cheatle, she admitted a final report would not be made available for at least two months. Finally, on Tuesday, Director Cheatle announced her resignation as Secret Service Director effective immediately. Now, the House is forming their own exploratory committee to investigate the attempted assassination and to provide answers for the American people to the questions Cheatle refused to answer. We will get to the bottom of this, and we will ensure this does not happen again. The cost of failure is simply too high.

Around the District

Team Lesko attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for Phoenix Children’s Hospital – Arrowhead Campus and welcomed them to Arizona’s 8th Congressional District.

Casework Highlight

A constituent was having a problem with their 2021 tax return refund following the loss of their spouse. There was an issue regarding long-term care reimbursements and the refund was never received. After contacting our office, we notified the IRS of this issue and they processed her return and issued the refund.

Military Academy Nominations

As a member of Congress, I have the privilege of nominating a limited number of people to four of the five service academies. This would include nominating candidates for appointment to the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a congressional nomination for appointment. For more information click here.
