This weekend (specifically tomorrow, but I try not to email you on Sundays when I can help it) marks one hundred days left in the 2024 election.
Sometimes, it feels like we’ve only just begun. I remember when we launched this campaign last March, it felt like we had all the time in the world to get our name out there and spread the central message I’ve been running on my entire political career, that government is a force for good when it invests in our people and our communities.
Well, now we’re finally starting to run out of time.
I feel good about where we are. I feel good about the campaign we’re running. But make no mistake—things can still change rapidly in a hundred days.
In one hundred days, Allied forces launched a massive offensive, broke the German lines, and forced an end to World War I.
In one hundred days, Napoleon Bonaparte went from exile to Emperor to his final defeat at Waterloo.
In one hundred days, a newly-inaugurated President Roosevelt created the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Tennessee Valley Authority, the Federal Emergency Relief Administration (which later split off into the Works Progress and Social Security Administrations), and otherwise passed much of a New Deal program that would radically transform America.
In other words, for all the work we’ve done, for all the effort we’ve put in, for all the momentum that is at our backs, this race remains anyone’s race. Whether we win or lose, whether or not we flip the Treasurer’s office and deliver real change for North Carolinians, depends on what all of us do over the next hundred days.
Election Day will be here before we know it, and the time to take action is now.
