Giving people more choice is also important when it comes to the food that they eat. Until recently, it was illegal in Arizona to sell home-cooked food. This had a significant impact on the Hispanic community, where sharing tamales was not just a tradition but a vital part of their livelihood and culture. Despite this, outdated food safety regulations made it illegal. Despite the Arizona legislature overwhelmingly passing the Cottage Food Bill, Gov. Katie Hobbs vetoed it, sparking a viral campaign led by AFP and The LIBRE Initiative, creating the hashtag #FreeTheTamales. Watch how our dedicated activists, including tamale vendor Carmen, united to launch the “Free the Tamales” campaign, transforming the lives of those selling delicious, home-cooked food. | | | | | |
