Great news, John – our voter registration partners are reporting a record number of new voter registrations in just the past week, particularly among young voters.
But that puts an important responsibility on you and me – we must now do everything in our power to welcome these first-time voters with friendly faces and open arms.
Why? Because what they experience at the polls this year will make all the difference in whether they show up again in 2026, 2028, and beyond – if they become lifelong voters, or check out for good.
And unfortunately, without our intervention, these folks are up against some serious – but surmountable – challenges. Confusing voting rules. Disinformation meant to suppress votes. Even outright attempts to intimidate people out of exercising their right to be heard.
I’m not letting that happen – and I hope you won’t either. That's why, as I write you, we are ramping up our efforts to recruit and train thousands of volunteer poll monitors for the upcoming election.
Each of these volunteers plays a major role in ensuring that our elections are safe, secure, and fair. They respond to last-minute polling place closures, push back on disinformation, and make sure every voter has a nonpartisan ally they can trust when they go to exercise their rights.
In 2020, this volunteer team made a serious difference, helping thousands of voters make their voices heard that may have been silenced without our action.
And after what I’ve seen these past few weeks, the Common Cause team has made the bold decision to go even bigger than we did in 2020 – meaning more volunteers, at more polling places, helping every single voter, new and old, know and exercise their rights.
To be perfectly clear – we’re making this call without any guarantee that the resources we need to make it happen will come through.
You see, Common Cause members like you showed up big time in October 2020, and again in October 2022. That enabled us to show up for voters the way we did, and we’ll always be grateful for the impact that you made.
But to make this new, amped up volunteer operation succeed, we need those contributions to come in now – not in a few months. That early money will help us make investments that will pay off tenfold, and help us do what it takes to meet this moment.
Common Cause is all-in – and I’m asking you today if you are too. For just $50, you can drive us forward to recruit, train, equip, and place one additional volunteer at polling sites in need across the country – and by doing so now rather than later, you can multiply your results.
This is one of the biggest influences you can have to defend voters’ rights in 2024 – and help make sure this year’s first-time voters keep coming back. So, if you’re ready to do what it takes, please sponsor a volunteer today >>

If this week’s wave of new voter registrations excites you as much as it does me, I hope you’ll step up to help ensure that every vote and every voice matters this year.
Thank you for your commitment to our democracy.
