Replacing drug criminalization with health approaches is the only way to curb the overdose crisis and connect people with services and support they need to stay alive. This includes accessible and affordable treatment, harm reduction services like drug safety checking and fentanyl test strips, and OPCs.
We have more than 50 years of evidence that locking people up for drug use doesn’t work. It’s delusional to pretend otherwise.
It’s time for candidates to prioritize evidence-based health approaches instead of ideology and fear. It’s time to save lives with compassion and care. If our nation doubles down on the failed drug war policies that led us here, then our communities will continue to suffer.
