Dear Jack,
When did you first get a smartphone? So much has changed since then.
For a start, the way we follow the news is today very different.
Now if there’s a major news story, we often find out first not from cable news, but from social media. A growing share of Americans get their news via their cell phones, rather than TV or in print.
Old media, new media
In 2000, there were an estimated 50 million daily newspapers circulating in America. Today, there are less than 20 million. Newspapers are no longer primarily a print product, but read the way you’re reading this.
Rather than lament these changes, here at MCPP we see it as an opportunity. As Mississippi’s conservative voice, if our audience is primarily online, we need to be, too.
If you are reading this, thank you. You’re one of 82,000+ people in the Magnolia state that have subscribed to get our Saturday email. It has gone out every week at 6:45am since I took on this job, and it is our principle way to keep you informed.
But the internet is evolving.
No longer primarily a medium of the written word, the internet is increasingly a medium of the moving image. AI will only accelerate this change. News outlets that don’t adapt will soon feel as clunky as that first website your company had back in 1990 something.
We are investing time and effort to produce audio visual content that our audience wants.
We have quietly built up a YouTube audience with over 9,000 subscribers. Since the start of this month, over 23,000 individuals have watched thousands of hours of our output, as we discuss everything from the myth of the Mississippi "miracle" to George Soros.

We have also been posting audio content on our “Coming to America” podcast. A steady trickle of listeners has turned into constant flow, and we aim to turn it into a torrent. Our podcast has already had over 50,000 downloads, mostly in Mississippi.
You can add “Coming to America” to your regular podcast playlist on Apple, Spotify or wherever you access your podcasts.
Have a wonderful weekend!
