Current Transitions and Future Success

As many of you may already know, Prosperity Now’s long-serving leader, Andrea Levere, has transitioned to the role of President Emerita and I have been given the extraordinary honor of moving into the role of President. I was a friend of Prosperity Now before becoming President and I am both humbled and excited to have the opportunity to continue as the head of this amazing organization and to build upon the rich legacy that Andrea leaves behind.

Having had the opportunity to contribute to Prosperity Now as a board member and work alongside other members of the leadership team has given me keen insight into the organization. Likewise, my previous roles as President and CEO of the Metropolitan Economic Development Association and Vice President and Chief Program Officer for the Northwest Area Foundation provide a solid foundation for the many facets of Prosperity Now’s vision, work and strategy.

But the future success of this organization isn’t just about me. Our legacy of success is owed to the dedicated people who handle day-to-day operations and enable Prosperity Now to deliver scalable practical solutions, in-depth research and proven policy solutions. Prosperity Now’s dedicated staff are our greatest strength and I am committed to continuing this dynamic of passion and innovation.

When a new leader takes office, there’s often talk about the “first hundred days.” As we begin this transition, my focus will not be on creating a new vision for Prosperity Now. Instead, I will be building on the vision that was cultivated 40 years ago and carried forward by Andrea’s leadership over the past 14 years. To this end, much of my time during this first hundred days will be spent learning. I’ll be listening to staff, partners, funders and other stakeholders as well as evaluating opportunities for advancement.

Ultimately, I want you to be confident that Prosperity Now is not going to change. From our humble beginnings as the Corporation for Enterprise Development to the multi-faceted organization we are today, we have always embraced change and innovation as big parts of the solution to the complex problem of the wealth divide. Our mission of helping people achieve financial security remains the same—and it’s one that I am ardently dedicated to. I cherish and celebrate our unique principles, values and culture and we will continue to stay true to that.

Prosperity Now isn’t just our name, it’s our rallying cry—and our guiding principle. As we forge ahead, I look forward to Andrea’s ongoing guidance and inspiration. I also share her optimism for Prosperity Now’s bright future. Finally, I appreciate the incredible support from the Board, the leadership team and staff. I am confident the best is still ahead of us and that together we will continue to make Prosperity Now an integral driver of the effort to close the wealth divide.

Wishing you all continued success and growth with us as Prosperity Now embarks on its next phase.

Sincerely,

Gary Cunningham, President
