Whether you?re a sports fan or just rooting for DC, there?s plenty to cheer for in the coming days and weeks. From the tennis courts at Rock Creek Park to stadiums, arenas, and fields across Paris, France, we are proud of all the athletes who will be representing Washington, DC and our region at the 2024 Summer Olympics, Paralympics, and the Mubadala Citi DC Open. Whether they were born in DC, trained in DC, went to school in DC, or now represent DC in professional sports, we?re ready to cheer them on.
Community members came together at events across DC, including at the Reservoir Park Recreation Center, for Opening Ceremony watch parties.
Yesterday, Washington Spirit star Trinity Rodman helped get the Olympics off to a thrilling start with the first goal for the U.S. Women?s National Team. Closer to home, Robin Montgomery and Clervie Ngounoue ? two young tennis stars, both DC natives ? are getting ready to play in the Mubadala Citi DC Open.
Of course, it?s not just the professionals who are winning for the Sports Capital ? our kids and families continue to play and train with the Department of Parks and Recreation at camps and events across all eight wards. And there are plenty of fun DPR events still to come this summer, including another Late Night Hype tonight at the Woody Ward Community Center.
