Dear neighbor,
As we wrap up another busy week in Washington, I am reflecting on President Biden’s legacy. He will go down in history as one of the most effective Presidents America has ever had. I am grateful for his selfless patriotism and honored to have had the opportunity to serve our great nation alongside him. President Biden worked with Congress to put people over politics on behalf of American families. Together we helped provide lifesaving aid during the COVID-19 pandemic, made historic investments in clean energy and infrastructure, passed the first gun safety legislation in decades, and ushered in record job growth and historic low unemployment.
In contrast, House Republicans spent another week touting their plans to ban abortion, raise costs and defund critical programs that American families rely on through their creepy Project 2025 agenda. Watch my full comments on their plans below.
PHOTO OF THE WEEK: I was glad to meet the 2023 NCAA champion UCLA men’s volleyball and women’s water polo teams this week! It is an honor to represent UCLA in Congress. Throughout their seasons and beyond, these amazing student-athletes make our community proud.
GO TEAM USA! Ahead of opening ceremonies in Paris, I joined my fellow Olympic and Paralympic Caucus Co-Chairs Diana DeGette (D-CO), John Curtis (R-UT) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY) to introduce a bipartisan resolution honoring our fantastic Team USA athletes!
I am especially looking forward to watching the six Olympic athletes from our district in coastal Los Angeles County compete on the world stage. Let’s go Team USA!
Here’s what else I worked on this week in Washington:
- Celebrated a historic $1.2 billion agreement between California and the Department of Energy to launch our Hydrogen Hub! With this investment, California will continue to lead the nation in clean energy development.
- Joined the Congressional Hispanic Caucus for an artificial intelligence policy roundtable discussion.
- Remembered the life of the late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), a true public servant and voice for the voiceless. It was a privilege to serve on the House Judiciary Committee with Congresswoman Jackson Lee. She will be dearly missed.
- Marked World IVF Day alongside my Pro-Choice Caucus colleagues. We will never give up the fight against extreme MAGA Republicans’ efforts to eliminate access to IVF and criminalize reproductive care.
