In June, the US Supreme Court overturned the Chevron doctrine, which deferred to experts at agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to interpret complex laws.

By gutting EPA’s authority to tackle climate change and keep our air and water clean, the Supreme Court opened the door to a new wave of legal challenges to our fundamental environmental protections. 

We need Congress to swiftly respond to the Supreme Court’s decision by reaffirming the ability of EPA and other federal agencies to protect our communities from corporate polluters.

Urge Congress to respond to the Supreme Court by restoring and strengthening EPA’s authority to limit pollution and combat the climate crisis.

The court reversed 40 years of legal precedent in a major victory for fossil fuel interests. If this ruling goes unanswered, judges with no professional background in highly technical areas will have the final say in interpreting complex environmental laws. 

That’s why we’re calling on Congress to: 

• Reaffirm and enhance the authority of EPA and other federal agencies to address climate change and environmental issues.  
• Ensure that these agencies can effectively implement regulations based on the latest scientific research and technological advancements.  
• Provide clear guidance to prevent regulatory ambiguity and legal challenges that undermine environmental protections.
