Dear Friend,

I am writing to you to provide an update on the work I am doing to represent my constituents in the First District of Maryland and to advance conservative policies in the House of Representatives.

Below is a brief summary of important pieces of legislation we passed on the House Floor this week.

Condemning "Border Czar" Kamala Harris's Refusal to Secure the Border:

Since President Biden appointed Vice President, Kamala Harris as the "Border Czar," more than 7 million illegal immigrants have been caught attempting to enter the U.S. -- including 372 individuals on the terrorist watchlist. Additionally, the wide-open border policies of the Biden-Harris Administration enabled drug traffickers to flood our streets with fentanyl. In 2023 alone, the DEA seized more than 386 million deadly doses of fentanyl – enough to kill every American.

As "Border Czar," Vice President Harris visited the Southern Border only once and failed to take any action to address the massive influx of migrant crime in American communities. She even proclaimed that "the border was secure"-- when every American knew it wasn’t.

This week, the House passed H.Res. 1371, which strongly condemns the failure of "Border Czar" Kamala Harris to secure the United States Border. This resolution also affirms the American people deserve elected officials who understand the gravity of the crisis at the border and who will execute the policies to fix it.

The Biden-Harris Administration must be held accountable for their egregious efforts to subvert our immigration laws and for the consequences their actions have on American families and communities.

I voted in favor of this legislation.

H.R. 8998 - Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act

H.R. 8998, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, reins in wasteful spending and cuts burdensome regulations to reduce energy costs, safeguard American jobs, develop our natural resources, and ensure Americans’ access to public lands for recreation.

H.R. 8998 provides a total discretionary allocation of $38.478 billion, which is $72 million below the Fiscal Year 2024 enacted level and $4.407 billion (10%) below the President’s Budget Request. House Republicans are committed to cutting reckless spending and the legislation we are putting forward proves it.

I voted in favor of this legislation.

District Updates

Addressing Concerns with Advancing Offshore Wind Industrialization:

As you well know, the Maryland State Government and the Biden Administration have joined hands to make the development of offshore wind along the Atlantic coast and in Maryland a top priority. In recent years there have been eight new offshore wind projects approved by the Biden Administration.

As I have long said, the expansion of offshore wind industrialization comes at a heavy cost to our marine life and environment. We saw this last week when Nantucket, Massachusetts had to close several beaches when a damaged Vineyard Wind turbine blade broke apart sending floating debris and sharp fiberglass to the shore.

The debris from this damaged wind turbine will have a long-lasting, negative environmental impact on the beautiful beaches of our communities.

This should serve as a reminder that we need more research on the impacts of offshore wind industrialization before new leases are granted.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District Change of Command:

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, held their change of command ceremony earlier this week and we thanked outgoing Commander Colonel Estee S. Pinchasin for her years of dedicated service.

It has been an honor working with Colonel Pinchasin and I look forward to working with the incoming Commander, Colonel Francis B. Pera, on important future projects impacting Maryland.

Trump Assassination Attempt and Holding the Secret Service Accountable:

Like millions of Americans, I was deeply disturbed as shots rang out at a peaceful campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, appearing to hit President Trump's right ear and streaking his face with blood. While investigations are ongoing, it remains clear-- this was a categorical failure on the part of the Secret Service whose job was to make sure the venue was safe and to protect President Trump from threats on his life.

Shortly after the events of July 13, I called for the resignation of Director Cheatle, following her interview on ABC news in which she acknowledged that the "buck stops with me" in relation to the lapse of security at the Trump rally.

This week, Director Cheatle resigned. While this is a step in the right direction, it is vital that we understand what steps must be taken to address the systematic security failures that endangered one of the most protected people in America.

To address these concerns, the House passed H.Res. 1367, which would establish a congressional task force to investigate all actions by any agency, department, officer, or employee of the federal government, as well as State and local law enforcement or any other State or local
government or private entities or individuals, related to the attempted assassination of President Trump.

I voted in favor of this legislation.

President Biden Withdraws from 2024 Presidential Election:

For months, the White House tried to deceive the American people that President Biden could maintain the appearance of neurologic normalcy, but their efforts have been exposed. The American people see clearly that Joe Biden’s health is rapidly declining, and this week he announced he was officially withdrawing from the 2024 Presidential Election and supporting "Border Czar" Kamala Harris as his successor.

All the money in the world is not going to solve the Biden-Harris Administration's dangerous record on inflation, security, crime, and our economy.

When Joe Biden and Kamala Harris took office, inflation was at just 1.4%. Since Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have been in office, inflation has risen by 20.1%.

The facts are simple: The Biden- Harris policies have failed the American people, and "Border Czar" Kamala Harris is the co-owner and creator of "Bidenomics."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Addresses Congress:

Israel is one of our strongest allies in the Middle East and the United States will always stand with Israel during their time of need.

I was honored to attend Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's joint address to Congress and to show my support for our ally.

Sadly, we continue to see the rise of antisemitism and pro-Hamas sympathy spread across our country. As Prime Minister Netanyahu stated during his address, those who stand in solidarity with Hamas and Hezbollah are "Iran's useful idiots." The pro-terrorist protestors who defaced Union Station and burned the American flag do not represent America and will not change our support for Israel.
