White-tailed deer and wild turkeys together in an open field
Outdoor enthusiasts, landowners, and casual wildlife observers from across the state are all encouraged to take part in two annual community science projects that begin August 1. Maine Deer Spy and the Wild Turkey August Production Survey gather data from volunteers to help our biologists document and understand Maine's white-tailed deer and wild turkey populations. Participating is easy and anyone can contribute!

The data community scientists like you provide are used to increase confidence in our understanding of whitetail recruitment patterns and inform Maine's deer management. All you need to do when you see deer between August 1 and September 30, is make the following observations and submit them online or by mail:
* *Location*
* *Date and time*
* *The number of does (adult female deer with no antlers, with or without fawns)*
* *The number of bucks (deer with antlers)*
* *The number of fawns (young deer born this year, with or without a doe(s)).*
