Bringing the Olympics home
It’s official, the Winter Games are coming back to the Beehive State! This week, Salt Lake City, Utah, was awarded the host contract for the 2034 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. We joined the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, the Salt Lake City-Utah Committee for the Games, Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall and Olympic Athletes in Paris to make our final pitch to the International Olympic Committee and sign the paperwork to officially bring the Games back to Utah.
Back at home, thousands of Utahns gathered at Washington Square Park at 2:30 in the morning to watch our pitch live and celebrate – the energy was electric! We are grateful for the work of the Salt Lake City-Utah Committee for the Games and the elected officials who have given their support, but it wouldn’t be possible without the support of Utahns. More than 80% of Utahns and 100% of our elected leaders supported our Olympic bid.
The Olympics and Paralympics represent so much more than competition. At its core, the Olympic Movement is about building community and celebrating excellence, things we do really well in Utah. We're ready to host another Olympic Winter Games, and we can't wait to welcome the world back to Utah in 2034. Let’s go!
