Hey John, it’s Aru with Sunrise Movement.
Record-breaking heat waves each summer aren’t normal—they’re a crisis.
This week, the Miami hub rallied, and hubs in Boise, Idaho, and Denton, Texas, held vigils for those who have died from the heat in their communities and globally.
Last week in the District of Columbia, action was taken earlier this week, pressuring FEMA to classify extreme heat as a climate disaster.
Unnatural heat fueled by climate change is now killing thousands of people in the U.S. every year, and we need protection. So, while we fight for bold climate action, we also are demanding our government take action NOW to protect people from extreme heat.
That’s why we are calling on FEMA to designate extreme heat as a major disaster, so our communities have the resources they need to save lives.
