We as a nation are facing the most challenging crisis of our lifetimes. While the vast majority of Americans are pulling together and working selflessly to help each other, there are a few bad actors who are taking advantage of this national emergency. Unfortunately, one of them is Donald Trump.

The President has decided that a pandemic is the perfect time to roll back lifesaving clean air rules on power plant pollution. He will allow increased vehicle emissions. And across the board, the EPA will no longer actively enforce environmental protections. Trump’s disregard for public health is not limited to the coronavirus: the increased pollution from these rollbacks will literally kill thousands of Americans.

Numerous studies have shown a direct correlation between higher degrees of air pollutants and higher rates of death from COVID-19. Right now, we need cleaner air, not more exposure to mercury and other dangerous toxins.

Please sign our petition demanding that Trump’s EPA do its job and protect us from pollutants. Now more than ever, we have to keep our air clean.

One study from Harvard University found that people who live in areas with high pollution levels are more likely to die from COVID-19. Researchers pointed to fine particulate matter generated by fuel combustion from cars, refineries, and power plants as especially dangerous.

We are dealing with a respiratory pandemic, and those with underlying conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and chronic lung disease are particularly vulnerable. We already know that he doesn’t care about climate change: by allowing industries to pollute the environment unchecked during a pandemic, Trump is not only jeopardizing our future, he’s putting lives in immediate jeopardy.

It’s hard to believe that our president could be this irresponsible, heartless and cruel, but unfortunately, it’s true. We must act now to stop him.

As we observe Earth Day, let’s take this opportunity to do something important for our planet. Sign our petition and tell Trump that you want to keep our environment clean and healthy—now and forever.
