Hey John, it’s Lucas Kunce — I’m the Democrat and Marine veteran running to replace Republican and January 6th coward Josh Hawley in the U.S. Senate.
This is a little different from the emails you usually get from my campaign. But if you have a moment now or later today to even read a little bit of this important message, I’d greatly appreciate it.
This week, Hawley paid to deliver deceptive and negative attacks against me through texts and emails, just like his insider friends in DC have been doing for months.
I want to take a moment to explain why Hawley would do that — and why I’m counting on your first-time support to help our grassroots movement fight back and defeat him this November.
If you can’t read the rest of this message, here’s the top line: Josh Hawley is running scared of our record-breaking campaign. He will do and say anything to slow down our momentum. And with reproductive rights, worker’s rights, and our economic future all on the line this year, we cannot let him keep lying and cheating to sow even more division.
U.S. Senate races like ours have never been more important. So if you’ve still got another moment to stick around, please keep reading to learn more about what’s behind these attacks.
Over the last few months, there have been some big moments in our race.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the Kansas City Star both endorsed my campaign, citing my “coalition of workers and organized labor with veterans and women’s rights supporters,” my background being “raised in a struggling working-class family” bankrupted by medical bills, and that my “extensive legal and military experience far outpaces Hawley’s.”
They said that Democrats “have the opportunity for an upset here. They also have an opportunity to seat a senator the state could finally be proud of.”
The papers back that up with polls showing the race tightening between me and Hawley — which is far closer than the presidential. I’m even beating Hawley already among independent voters!
They’ve mentioned our strong grassroots fundraising too. We have donors in every single one of Missouri’s 114 counties + the City of St. Louis — with 98% of donations $200 or less, and without a cent from corporate PACs.
Those endorsements followed other big endorsements for me from Abortion Action Missouri, the AFL-CIO, UAW, SEIU, VoteVets, the Missouri Fire Fighters, and the League of Conservation Voters.
In the last six years, Josh Hawley has rejected investment in our state, stalled health cover for veterans exposed to burn pits, corrupted our courts to enact abortion bans, and used every chance he could to divide us using race, class, and religion. Just this month, he even said he’ll lead a “Christian Nationalist” crusade against our freedoms if he wins another term in the Senate.
The organizations, leaders, and everyday people in my coalition for this U.S. Senate race are from all walks of life, but we all agree on this: This is our one chance to defeat Josh Hawley, and we aren’t going to waste it.
But our unity and momentum has caught the attention of Hawley and DC Republicans — and they’re doing and saying anything they can to slow us down. They’ve launched the same style of attacks on Democrats in other important races across the country.
So let me sum this up: Josh Hawley is afraid of our movement to defeat him — and he’s going to lie and cheat to try and stop us.
This is our only chance to replace him, to get another vote in Congress to restore Roe v. Wade, and to have a U.S. Senator who finally invests in our communities and fights to defend our freedoms.
I’m counting on your support to get that message in front of voters before November’s election, John. That’s why I have to ask:

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
I promise that when I’m elected to the U.S. Senate, I’ll work hard every day to invest in you, empower you, and secure your freedoms. I’ll fight to pass the PRO Act, ban stock ownership for judges and politicians, restore Roe, protect access to IVF, put America on track to lead in the next generation of energy and industry, and create more union jobs in Missouri.
Now let’s get back to work,
— Lucas Kunce
