Dear John,

It gives me great pleasure to announce that the Board of Directors of The Sentencing Project has selected national criminal justice expert and human rights lawyer Amy Fettig to serve as its next Executive Director.

Amy has garnered an outstanding reputation for her work on prison conditions in her current role as the Deputy Director of the ACLU National Prison Project. In that capacity, Amy has litigated federal class action conditions cases under the Eighth Amendment, led national advocacy campaigns to address solitary confinement and the shackling of pregnant women in prison, and engaged in broad public education on justice reform.

Amy will begin her tenure as Executive Director on July 1st, at which time I will transition to become a Senior Advisor to The Sentencing Project after 33 years with the organization. In this capacity I will lend support to this organizational transition and take on special projects to support our work.

Thanks to all for your support and guidance to me personally over these many years. It’s been quite a journey, and I’m very fortunate to have been able to serve in this position.

Regards,
