Dear John
In this unprecedented global
pandemic, it’s right that we listen to experts and offer constructive
ideas to our Government as we get through this period together. But
it’s also right - vital even - that we hold Ministers to account for
their slow progress in protecting our frontline workers.
Every day, our NHS and care staff
are going above and beyond. They are working around the clock, putting
themselves in danger, all to protect the most vulnerable and to save
lives.
Yet still, after weeks of frontline
staff raising the alarm, they are not getting the equipment and
support they need.
That’s why I have signed the
Liberal Democrats’ call for a new Frontline Support Package.
As well as urging a ramping up of
production of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and practical
support for overstretched staff in their personal lives, it also calls
for a Frontline Service Reward.
In military service, personnel
receive a deployment allowance of £29 per day on active duty. We think
the same should apply to NHS and care staff, who are putting
themselves in danger during the Coronavirus epidemic. So will you sign in support
too?
Last week we all joined Captain Tom
as he walked 100 laps of his garden to raise money for NHS Charities
Together. Now the Government must step up and provide the support
package our frontline workers deserve.
Kind regards
Siobhan Benita
