Yikes - 'Dirty money' from Big Sugar is even worse than we thought!

Dear reader: We goofed!

There’s even more Big Sugar campaign cash out there than we thought!

Due to a glitch in the search process, we underreported — by more than $1 million! — the amount of money given by Florida Crystals to Florida politicians and political action committees during the current election cycle.

In fact, Florida Crystals Corp. has shelled out $1.1 million this election cycle, along with another $130,000 from two Florida Crystals subsidiaries, Okeelanta Corp. and Stofin Co.

The Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative gave another $42,650.

And these amounts were dwarfed by the $4 million given by U.S. Sugar this cycle to candidates and PACs.

All told, the sugar industry has doled out nearly $5.3 million – with more than three months yet to go before the November elections.
