Hi John.

As a member of the House Small Business Committee, I’ve made it a priority to help our local entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurship is baked into our district’s DNA. Nearly 170,000 people are employed by small businesses in the Kansas Third District. Small businesses are a pillar of our local economy. They’re innovating, unclogging supply chains, and creating jobs.

I’m working in a bipartisan way to help our local businesses grow and hire. Click here to see my office’s new special report on small businesses in the Kansas Third.

Last week, I hosted a conversation in Lenexa with KC-area BBQ restaurant owners on addressing the challenges and opportunities facing small businesses in Kansas. We discussed navigating the current economic landscape and leveraging federal resources. You can click here to learn more about it on KSHB.

I understand many people are concerned about higher prices on groceries, gas, and more. I’m focused on concrete and bipartisan solutions to make life more affordable.

Thankfully, though, we’ve seen positive developments for our local economy and small business community in particular. Here are some key highlights –

But there’s more to do. That’s why I’ve been glad to work with both Republicans and Democrats on the Small Business Committee to help our entrepreneurs grow and thrive.

For example, I introduced the bipartisan SERV Act with my Republican colleague Mark Alford from Missouri. This bill would help break down the barriers veterans and reservists face when starting new businesses. This can help them utilize veteran-focused small business initiatives to access more resources and capital.

I also introduced the bipartisan Women’s Business Center Improvement Act. It would increase access to resources and opportunities for women business owners through the Kanas City Women’s Business Center and more nationwide. And I voted for bipartisan legislation to cut taxes for small businesses, including to help them pay for their research and development.
