Friend -
Now that ballots have dropped across Washington, we’re shining a spotlight on some of our incredible candidates running for State Senate in every part of the state.
In Central Washington, two Democratic candidates are running to represent their communities in districts that haven’t had a Democrat in office since the early ‘90s.
In the 14th legislative district, Latina Democrat Maria Beltran is running to represent the community she grew up in. In a district that was established by court order to provide better representation to the majority Latino population, Maria grew up picking fruit with her immigrant parents each summer. Here, she learned the value of hard work and perseverance in an area with a struggling economy and rising cost of living.
Her opponent, an anti-choice Republican who moved back into the district after it was redrawn, has occupied his seat for nearly two decades with little to show for it.
In the 12th district, Democrat and former Snoqualmie City Councilmember Jim Mayhew is running to represent another district drastically changed by redistricting. Stretching from North Bend to Wenatchee, this district is viable for Democrats for the first time in decades, which makes it very promising for Mayhew, a pro-choice candidate with a reputation for pragmatic leadership.
Mayhew’s opponent is yet another anti-choice Republican who has failed to deliver real change for the district during his tenure in the State House.
As people begin to vote, every day and every dollar counts in giving these candidates a strong foundation as we approach November. Can you chip in $25 today to help us flip these crucial seats in Central Washington? Your donation is critical to turning these districts blue and winning a Democratic supermajority.
Thank you for your continued commitment to Senate Democrats.
