A weekly wrap of ADL’s reports, updates and analysis on antisemitism around the world.

This Week’s Topline

Slowing the Groups that Enable Antisemitism + Glorify Terrorism

[link removed]

Since the Hamas massacre on Oct. 7, antisemitic incidents have surged globally. Campuses have become hotbeds for antisemitic activity, often orchestrated by groups that celebrate terrorism and harass Jewish students, and that are funded in part by fiscal sponsors that operate without sufficient oversight or transparency.

This week, ADL’s Oren Segal, VP of the ADL Center on Extremism, addressed Members of Congress in a hearing about “Tracing the Flow of Tax-Exempt Dollars to Antisemitism.” Oren explained the threat provided by these groups that fuel dangerous antisemitic activity and glorify terrorism with support from 501(c)(3) sponsors.

To protect Jewish communities, ADL calls on Congress and the IRS to conduct a thorough review of the fiscal sponsors supporting projects that glorify terrorism and violence and ensure greater transparency and oversight.

Netanyahu on Antisemitism: In Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress yesterday in D.C., he warned about how antisemitic conspiracy theories can lead to persecution and attacks, and noted that “just as malicious lies were leveled at the Jewish people, now they’re being leveled at the Jewish stateā€¦ meant to delegitimize Israel, to demonize the Jewish state and to demonize Jews everywhere.” He also condemned the wave of anti-Israel protests that have swept campuses, and called for the world to fight the appalling rise in antisemitism with vigor and without exception.

ADL Files Federal Civil Rights Complaint vs School District of Philadelphia: Since Oct. 7, the School District of Philadelphia has become a viciously hostile environment for Jewish students. ADL has stepped in to file a Title VI complaint with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights on behalf of parents whose children have been subjected to “severe and persistent harassment and discrimination.” This toxic environment has included openly antisemitic bullying and harassment by teachers and peers.

Many of these posts have been viewed tens of thousands — or even millions — of times.

Campus Crisis Update

Wisconsin-Milwaukee. An anti-Zionist social media account

has threatened people at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee who support Israel. The warning, which named Hillel and the Jewish Federation specifically, came from an account called ‘UWM Popular University for Palestine.’ It threatened Israel supporters, saying it would treat them as “extremist criminals.” The university

denounced the post and the potential danger to Jewish individuals and groups, and the Jewish Federation has alerted law enforcement.

Trouble for SJP Backers. A state court in Virginia has ruled that American Muslims for Palestine, the parent organization of Students for Justice in Palestine, needs to hand over records to the state’s Attorney General as part of

a probe of the group and whether it is connected to the funding of terrorism-related activity and groups. SJP, as

this ADL backgrounder notes, has endorsed Hamas’ terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians and is an inflammatory voice on campus against pro-Zionist students.

Urge Congress to fight anti-Jewish hate online. ADL's latest Online Hate and Harassment Report found that Jewish adults were more likely to be harassed for their religion than non-Jews (34% vs. 18%), 41% of Jewish adults changed their online behavior to avoid being recognized as Jewish, and nearly two-thirds of Jewish adults (63%) reported feeling less safe online than they did last year. Tell your Member of Congress to pass the Digital Social Platform Transparency Act to help fight online hate and harassment.

I applaud @Marvel for not capitulating to the bigots who tried to cancel the Israeli identity of its superheroine, Sabra, in #CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld. As @ADL’s Deborah Camiel told @Jerusalem_Post, we welcome the portrayal of a strong Jewish Israeli woman on the big screen.

We are thankful that the individual who perpetrated a series of violent, antisemitic attacks on the visibly Orthodox communities of Lakewood and Jackson, has been held accountable for terrorizing local residents and leaving multiple victims with injuries. Thank you to @USAO_NJ & @OCPONJ and other law enforcement who worked on this case.
