Hi Friend,
It’s not just you … it’s been a bizarre month.
Apart from all the significant national political news, there’s been lots going on in the world of Big Tech as well.
As we predicted months ago, multiple deepfake videos – ranging from President Biden giving an expletive-laden address from the Oval Office [1] (totally fake), to Vice President Harris giving a seemingly confused speech [2] (also totally fake) – are proliferating in an attempt to sway voters.
We’ve also seen Elon Musk of X/Twitter openly endorse one of the candidates in the presidential race – along with a 45 million dollar a month commitment – just to turn back on his monetary commitment a few days later [3] [4] [5] – and go on to share some rather nonsensical, bordering on dangerous, posts with his 190-million-plus followers. [6]
Meanwhile, we’re watching closely as Big Tech companies put their considerable legal weight behind an effort to quash California’s first-in-the-nation bipartisan online kids safety legislation that we helped pass in 2022. [7]
With everything going on in the world, and our information ecosystem seemingly on fire, we’d like to know how you’re feeling these days. Will you take our short, five-question survey and share your thoughts with us here at Accountable Tech?
TAKE THE SURVEY
We’ll share the results of the survey back out with everyone in a couple weeks’ time – and use your guidance to help steer our work in the run-up to the election.
Here at Accountable Tech we know we won’t be able to put out ALL the fires in the information ecosystem over the next few months, but we’ll do our best to quench the most important ones – and your input will be a lot of help to us in doing that.
Thanks so much,
Nicole Gill
