Dear John,

I wanted to share again my heartfelt thanks on behalf of all our front-line workers supporting people who are homeless during this pandemic, and give you an update on how your support is helping to protect to those most exposed to this virus.

Despite the government’s message that everyone sleeping rough would be moved into self-contained accommodation so they can safely self-isolate, there are still people hungry and desperate sleeping rough on our streets. There are also more and more people facing increased pressure as a result of losing work or taking on caring responsibilities at risk of being pushed into homelessness.
We are all in this together and thanks to supporters like you, we’re working to ensure that everyone in our society is protected and supported.
  • You’re helping people like Jennifer:

Jennifer used to be homeless, but before lockdown we supported her to find a room in a shared house. Now, thanks to you, we’re able to help her while she self-isolates because of her health.

‘Crisis staff have managed to get me a food bank delivery and find volunteers who were able to do a shop for me. I'm very grateful for their help. I don’t have any family support so it’s very lonely at the moment. If I didn't have Crisis' help, I don't know where I would have been.’
  • You’re supporting our front-line workers to provide vital services:

Across the country Crisis staff and volunteers are picking up prescriptions and delivering food parcels to those who have been able to move into hotels, and they've been distributing mobile phones so we can provide support remotely - everything from one-to-one advice and wellbeing sessions to fitness classes that people can access from the safety of self-isolation.

Our colleague Hazel wanted to tell you about how her London services team are working to provide the best support to people experiencing homelessness. Have a listen here or click on the image.

  • You're providing a lifeline to people across the country:

We’re continuing to fund local organisations through our emergency grants fund, because we know a coordinated response will reach more people across the UK. Thanks to you, we've been funding projects like Caring in Bristol, who are providing a 'meals on wheels' service through volunteer delivery drivers. With night shelters and free food venues in Bristol having had to close, you really are helping to provide a lifeline at a time when people would otherwise be lacking even these basic essentials.

Thank you,

Jon Sparkes
Crisis Chief Executive

P.S. Tonight on BBC One at 7pm, BBC Children in Need and Comic Relief are joining forces to present The Big Night In. Our Emergency Grants Scheme is one of the recipients of funds raised throughout the evening – this will help us support even more local homelessness organisations across the UK, like Caring in Bristol.
