Vote Mama Monthly Newsletter
🇺🇸 July 2024 Edition 🇺🇸

There’s A LOT to unpack in terms of the current events that took place in U.S. politics this month. First, we’re excited to join fellow Democrats in rallying behind Vice President Kamala Harris after President Joe Biden withdrew his re-election candidacy for the 2024 Presidential Election and endorsed Harris. This is a crucial opportunity to elect the first woman, a woman of color no less, as the POTUS. With Harris at the very top of the ticket — and our endorsed mamas running up and down the ballot across the country to score sweeping Democratic victories — we are feeling energized by this new momentum! Check out this statement in Forbes from Liuba Grechen Shirley (Vote Mama Founder & CEO) in response to the news of Harris’ candidacy!

On a more somber note, another public shooting gained national attention this month: this time, at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. As politically-motivated violence continues to reach dangerous new heights, this attack on the former president was a stark reminder of the need to address the gun violence epidemic, which means electing leaders who will champion common-sense gun reform.

As we are getting ready to close the month of July, it’s also crunch time for our endorsed pro-choice moms in one of Vote Mama’s four targeted battleground states: Arizona. With an abortion ballot initiative, an open U.S. Senate seat, and the most flippable state legislature in the country, all eyes are on Arizona this year, and the primary election takes place on Tuesday, July 30. So we’re dedicating our candidate and alumnae sections of this newsletter to boosting these trailblazing mamas running for office in Arizona.

Here's a look at some of our highlights from July!

CANDIDATE SPOTLIGHTS

The Arizona State Legislature is the most flippable in the country, and Vote Mama is ALL in for our endorsed pro-choice mamas fighting for reproductive rights in AZ!

Raquel Terán stands to become the FIRST Latina to ever represent Arizona in Congress, and retaining this blue seat is imperative if Democrats are going to secure the House majority.

Additionally, these incredible pro-choice Vote Mama legislative candidates will be on the ticket in Arizona’s primary: Eva Burch, Priya Sundareshan, Eva Diaz, Stephanie Simacek, Sarah Liguori, Stacey Travers, Stephanie Stahl Hamilton, and Quantá Crews.

Democrats need to flip just 2 seats in each chamber to achieve a majority AND a trifecta — which would have a significant impact on protecting reproductive rights from anti-choice lawmakers.

With just a few days until the primary election, our endorsed moms are urgently counting on us to boost their campaigns in this final push so that they can advance to the general election. ALUMNAE SPOTLIGHTS

Vote Mama is no stranger to increasing the political power of pro-choice, Democratic moms in Arizona.

  • This year, Vote Mama Alum Attorney General Kris Mayes made headlines when she announced that she’d refuse to prosecute anyone under the 1864 abortion ban.
  • 2024 Vote Mama candidate Rep. Eva Burch went viral when she spoke out against the abortion ban as she was in need of abortion care due to an unviable pregnancy.
  • Lastly, Vote Mama candidate Rep. Stephanie Stahl Hamilton led the fight to repeal the Civil War-era ban.

Thanks to the dedication that our pro-choice mamas have for defending abortion, we are closer to ensuring that reproductive rights are protected for all Arizonians. But the fight isn’t over yet, which is why the upcoming primary election in AZ is crucial to protecting abortion rights.

BREAKING BARRIERS FOR MAMAS

CFCC in 33 States Headline

Vote Mama Founder & CEO Liuba Grechen Shirley has been paving the way to increasing the political power of moms through Vote Mama Foundation’s efforts to pass Campaign Funds for Childcare (CFCC) — critical legislation that would allow parents and caregivers running for office to use their campaign funds to pay for childcare.

CFCC had a massive win when Hawaii officially authorized it just a couple of weeks ago, becoming the 33rd state to do so. Now this critical resource is authorized in two-thirds of the country: a landmark victory!

We are so excited for the progress that this impactful legislation has made for moms and the barriers that are being broken by the passage of CFCC. We can’t wait to see the doors that this will open for trailblazing mamas who want to make a difference in their communities by running for political office!
