A Message from City Council Leader, Cllr David Mellen:
I want to wish everyone a happy and safe St George?s Day. It is a difficult time for many of us, and the coronavirus has even prevented us from celebrating our patron saint in the usual way. But we couldn?t let the day go unrecognised - Nottingham?s Council House was lit up red overnight and the flag is flying today!

Clapping for our carers
It?s Thursday again and at 8pm tonight, we will once again clap for our carers, our wonderful NHS and all keyworkers including the council?s own frontline teams. Key workers are from a diverse range of sectors, providing care for the vulnerable and enabling us all to access essential services over this uncertain time. I would encourage you all to join your community this evening to show your support and join in with the applause.
Clap from your front door, window or balcony, but please remember to follow social distancing measures by keeping two metres apart from others not in your household.

Demanding Fair Financial Support for Councils
As much as we appreciate all the efforts made by Nottingham people to raise money and donate time to look after our vulnerable people, we know that the Government can and should do more to help local authorities deal with this crisis.
Our immediate focus has been on making sure residents and businesses are supported through this crisis period and making sure that vitally important frontline council services continue to function safely. We want to able to continue to do that to the best of our ability but we need Government to stand shoulder to shoulder with us and recognise the financial consequences we are experiencing. To this end I have written to the Prime Minister to make our case for further funding and will continue to lobby them through all our networks.
