Pelosi Backs Down From Proxy Voting
|
|
House Democrats were poised to hold a vote today to change the House rules to allow proxy voting today. Yesterday, Eagle Forum sent a letter to House Republican leadership and to the ranking member of the House Committee on Rules asking that they stop any efforts to allow proxy voting.Â
Â
Soon after, we learned that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced on a call that there were not enough votes for this resolution to pass, and no vote would occur. This is great news! Our Congressional members will continue to uphold their civic duty by voting on legislation in-person.
Â
The fight is not over though. A bipartisan task force was created to look into this matter further. House members include Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Reps. Jim McGovern (D-MA) and Tom Cole (R-OK) who are members of the Rules Committee, Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), and Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL). Leader McCarthy has previously expressed his opposition to proxy voting but would like to reopen business in the House. We will continue to reach out to these Representatives to ensure that the voice of the American people is protected.Â
