And her opponent in the primary, and her GOP opponent, MAGA extremist John James have made their stance on this issue crystal clear — both are proud to align themselves with the same groups actively fighting against our right to an abortion, birth control, and IVF. 

It wasn’t easy to decide to share her story with the world, but with our reproductive rights on the line this November, Emily knew it was the right thing to do. We need a voice for Michigan in Congress who understands how life-changing it is to have control over our healthcare decisions, John.

Subject: My choice.

John, I wasn't entirely sure where I wanted to start this story, but here it goes: freshman year of college, my dad died of cancer. It rocked my world. 

Then, just a few months later, I got news I never saw coming — I was pregnant. I didn't know a lot at that age, but I knew I wasn't ready.

So I decided to have an abortion.

I didn't have a lot of places to turn, but I did have my best friend Jessica, who's mom lent us her minivan so we could drive to the Planned Parenthood in Fort Wayne. 

And while it was a scary time in my life, at the end of the day, I had a choice. I had the freedom to control my own healthcare decisions and my future.

John, that choice meant everything, and looking back, it completely changed my life. 

But the sad reality is that today, so many women across the country don't have that choice. Nineteen year old girls today have less rights than I did thirty-three years ago.

So I’m sharing this story, and it will be the first time that many close to me hear it. But I know that this is the right thing to do, because we need more leaders who understand what access to abortion care can mean to a person.

Unfortunately, folks in this race – like MAGA extremist John James, and my anti-choice primary opponent Carl Marlinga – have aligned themselves with the same groups actively looking to take away our right to an abortion, birth control, IVF, and more!

We deserve better, John — that's why I'm running for Congress.
