** Tell the new British government to speed up sanctions on the Burmese military
------------------------------------------------------------

Dear John,

Can you remember the last time the British government announced it was imposing new sanctions to cut off arms, jet fuel or money going to the Burmese military?

People in Burma are dying every day resisting military rule. Or dying simply sleeping in their beds, at work, or at school, killed by Burmese military airstrikes, artillery or landmines.

The scale of the crisis in Burma is enormous. The scale of the British government response has reduced to small measures at a snail’s pace.

We now have a new government and a new opportunity to revitalise the British government response to the crisis in Burma.

Please write to the new British Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, calling on him to urgently speed up, and scale up, the British government response to the crisis in Burma. ([link removed])

The British government must:
* Sanction Burmese and international companies involved in supplying jet fuel to the military.
* Sanction Burmese state-owned banks used by the military to purchase arms and receive revenue.
* Triple UK aid to Burma, working with local civil society and others to ensure it reaches people in areas not under Burmese military control.
* Expel the Burmese military attaché from the UK. The Burmese military are not welcome in the UK.

You can send an email to David Lammy here ([link removed]) .

Thank you for your support.
