Dear Green American, What if you found out the money in your bank account was being used to fuel fires and floods, fracking and coal mining, and air and water pollution where you live? If you bank with one of the major US megabanks, that’s likely the case. Since the 2015 Paris Agreement, the world’s 60 largest banks have committed $6.9 trillion to the fossil fuel industry, according to the annual Banking on Climate Chaos report. Almost half has gone to new oil, gas, and coal projects. Nine of these top global banks -- JPMorgan Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, PNC, Truist, and US Bank -- are based in the United States. Together they have bankrolled the fossil fuel industry by over $2 trillion since the Paris Agreement, about 30% of all fossil fuel financing. Tell US megabanks: Stop bankrolling fossil fuels causing the climate crisis! |
