CNBC recently released its list of “America’s 10 worst states to live and work in for 2024,” and alarm bells should be going off. The toxic MAGA agenda being pushed in states like Missouri and across the country—particularly Project 2025, the Trump campaign’s disturbing blueprint for America’s future—is dragging us down.

The CNBC report gives Missouri an "F" for Quality of Life and Workforce. But the reasons why Missouri is ranked so low overall should give us pause: Missouri’s near-total abortion ban, which has no exceptions for rape or incest and only a vague and confusing exception for the “life of the mother,” was a huge factor. Crime, and oppressive voting restrictions, also weighed heavily in the poor ranking.

After over 20 years of Republican control of Missouri, we have a lot of work to do to turn things around.

The frustrating thing about report cards like these is that there are common sense solutions that people of any political party can support—but progress is constantly thwarted by extremists who cause chaos and dysfunction if they don’t get exactly what they want.

And the things that the extremists demand are deeply unpopular: defunding public schools and libraries; draconian abortion bans with zero exceptions; outlawing contraception and widely used fertility treatments like in vitro fertilization (IVF); and flooding the streets with guns, making it even harder for our law enforcement officers to keep us safe.

We should not be held hostage to an extremist agenda that flouts majority rule and rolls back the freedoms and personal rights that we have fought for and gained over the last 100 years. 

The status quo here doesn’t have to be failure. It doesn’t have to be coming up last in every measure of quality of life. We can change things and turn our state around: We Can Do Better.

Flipping this seat is essential to ending the chaos and extremism that hold us back. But Joe is going to need an outpouring of grassroots support from all of us to win so that he can go to Jefferson City and fight for us.
