Friend, Foreign money has no place in our elections. Unfortunately, the same harmful decision that opened the floodgates for dark money to enter our elections, Citizens United v. FEC, allows American-registered corporations that are foreign-owned, foreign-controlled, and/or foreign-influenced to spend in our elections. Congressman Jamie Raskin and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse introduced this legislation that would prohibit corporations with significant foreign ownership from contributing to our elections. Foreign business owners and investors should not have the ability to pay to influence our elections. The Get Foreign Money Out of U.S. Elections Act prevents companies with at least 1% ownership from a foreign national or at least 5% ownership from multiple foreign individuals from spending in U.S. elections. This common-sense legislation is incredibly popular. Recent polling from Data for Progress demonstrates that voters from across the political spectrum support this proposal—with nearly three-in-four voters supporting the proposal to ban companies with foreign ownership at the 1% or 5% threshold from spending in our elections.[1] Join us in demanding that Congress pass the Get Foreign Money Out of U.S. Elections Act now!>> We must act to secure our elections from foreign influence. Thank you for your advocacy on this issue. Charlie Everett
