Dear John,

We’ve got a lot of news for you this summer. Starting with our legal case this week challenging the UK’s weak plan for adapting to the dangers of climate breakdown.

We launched the case alongside Kevin, who lost his home to coastal erosion, and Doug, who’s health is at serious risk in extreme heat. Together we’re arguing the new government must do more – right away – to protect everyone from the inevitable impacts of climate breakdown. Especially those most at risk.

No one should be left to face the worst of the climate emergency. If you agree, please add your name to show your support.

We’ve taken on this legal case because people are already suffering from the climate crisis.

The government has a legal responsibility to adapt to climate risks posed to people, homes and livelihoods in the UK. This responsibility is thanks to the Climate Change Act – a law we campaigned for and won back in 2008.

So, please support us today as we continue to challenge the government in court to deliver on its climate adaptation responsibilities.

We’ve won before. We can do it again. But we need you by our side. If you can, please chip in to our Crowdjustice fundraiser today to make the government take action.

New government, new climate and nature agenda?

The new Labour government has already signalled some positive changes since it came to power just 3 weeks ago. It’s reversed the onshore wind energy ban, said it won’t grant new oil and gas licences and withdrawn its legal defence of the coal mine in Cumbria. All things thousands of you have been calling for.

We’ve laid out what we think the government’s top priorities should now be for a future that's climate and nature friendly.

House building that doesn't cost
the earth

There’s no doubt about it. As well as being in climate and nature crises, we’re in a housing crisis too.

The new government has committed to building millions more homes that we desperately need. Including on the green belt.

Find out what our experts think about where and how to build the homes we need.

Imagining a future with more trees on our streets

Summer is here. But rising temperatures bring increased health risks from extreme heat – especially in urban areas and particularly for the most vulnerable in our communities.

So did you know that trees are the unsung heroes that cool our streets?

Listen to our latest podcast, where Emma Newman imagines a future where trees are valued more in both rural and urban environments and reflects on how that could benefit people and planet.

This episode is inspired by conversations with the CEO of one of the most ambitious rewilding projects in the UK, and a data scientist we worked with to produce the most accurate map of tree cover in England.

More poo-busting stunts by our groups

( [link removed] )
Our local action groups up and down the country took to the streets to raise awareness of our poo-infested wild waters. Bravo to Friends of the Earth Sheffield who grabbed attention by fishing for floaters in the river Don last month.

You’ve been helping us sound the alarm too. Thanks to over 60,000 of you who’ve already signed our public record of support for a new law to protect us and nature from dirty, stinking pollution.

We know the new government says it’ll take the pollution of our waterways seriously. But until we’ve secured a commitment to this new law, here are some handy tips to keep safe and alert your local leaders to water pollution near you.
