VIDEO OF THE DAY: Buttigieg utterly humiliates Trump over Kamala on national TV
Trump clearly doesn't want to have to debate presumptive new Democratic nominee Kamala Harris because he's terrified of what might happen — and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg laid his cowardice out for the entire country to see.

"Our republic is now in your hands:" Biden appeals to Americans to "preserve our democracy"
In a powerful Oval Office address to the nation, President Biden explained how he felt obligated to put aside his own ambition and sense of duty to the American people in order for the Democratic Party to give America the best chance it has to defeat Donald Trump and protect our democracy from his authoritarian agenda. "I revere this office, but I love my country more. The defense of democracy is more important than any title. I draw strength, and find joy, in working for the American people. But this sacred task of perfecting our union is not about me. It’s about you. Your families. Your futures. It’s about 'We the People,' said the President in a deeply moving show of selflessness that would be utterly unimaginable coming from Trump, who is in the running for the most selfish man to ever live. Biden's decision to voluntarily abdicate power and pass the torch to *a woman* is virtually unprecedented in human history, and it will be his last and greatest gift to the nation he has served for so many years. Nothing could strike a sharper contrast with Donald Trump, who incited an insurrection and a grand conspiracy to overturn an election in order to hold on to power he didn't earn. [RETWEET THAT!]

New poll shows VP Harris and Trump NECK AND NECK in crucial swing state
WisDems: A new Emerson College poll shows presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and would-be-dictator Trump tied at 47% in the absolutely-must-win swing state of Wisconsin. The road to the White House and a Senate majority runs through Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Democrats are building a state-wide get-out-the-vote grassroots organizing machine to knock on every door and visit every county for VP Harris. But they can't do it alone. Will you chip in to help the best state party in the country save our democracy from Trump and his radical Project 2025 cronies?
"I'm not going to be nice:" Donald Trump launches all-out attack on Kamala Harris
Trump's eye-rollingly fake attempt at striking a new tone of "unity" at the RNC following his near-brush with death was inevitably proven to be nothing more than a conman's sales pitch, as he went right back to the old Trump at a Tuesday rally in North Carolina. Indeed, the would-be dictator mocked and openly rejected the idea of him being "nice" or working for unity. “You know, I was supposed to be nice. They say something happened to me when I got shot; I became nice. And when you’re dealing with these people, they’re very dangerous people — when you’re dealing with them, you can’t be too nice. You really can’t be. So if you don’t mind, I’m not going to be nice," bragged Trump, who mispronounced Kamala Harris' name several times and went on his now-customary tangent about how Hannibal Lecter, the murderer from the film Silence of the Lambs, was actually a great person. This pivot should come as no surprise to anyone who doesn't get easily confused when mommy plays peekaboo.

House starts summer recess early as spending bills stall
The GOP's glee over the Democratic Party's month of chaos has immediately evaporated as Democrats coalesce in joyful unity around their new nominee and the GOP proves they are still incapable of fulfilling the most basic function of governance — paying for stuff. Mike Johnson's plan to pass 12 spending bills for fiscal year 2025 has run into the usual roadblocks of the Freedom Caucus insisting on shoving their weirdo culture war bullshit into entirely unrelated spending bills and making them unpassable, so Mike Johnson has decided to show leadership by once again giving up and kicking the can down the road. "Trying to pass 12 separate Republican appropriation bills, that the Democrat controlled Senate will NEVER vote on. For what? Messaging? When the reality that we ALL know is that we will be forced to vote on a CR by Sept 30th which is the government funding deadline. But for some reason that’s not being discussed even though we all know it," vented a fed-up Marjorie Taylor Greene. That's right, Marge, you will be voting on a CR to keep the government open in September...which means the GOP could be shutting down the government a month before the election because they can't be normal about anything for ten minutes. The American people will surely appreciate this. [RETWEET THAT!]

House GOP leaders urge members: Stop making race comments about Harris
We imagine that phone call went something like this: "Listen, guys, I know you're all a bunch of unhinged racists who got elected on a platform of racism and generally just enjoy being racist but could we please please PLEASE tone it down a little on the Kamala Harris thing? Despite your best efforts, black people still do have the ability to vote in this country and people are catching on that when you say "DEI" you just mean the "n-word." It's really not a good look for us, and we're already struggling to look normal because you guys won't stop being weird about gender either. Stop talking about kids' genitals. It's very off puttin! Christ. How did Nancy keep her people in line for so long?"

Netanyahu defensive and defiant in address to Congress protested by both the public and reps alike
Far-right-wing extremist and convicted criminal Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke to a Congress missing the Vice President and and over half the Democratic caucus, including Speaker emerita Nancy Pelosi. The man ultimately responsible for the deaths of over 39,000 people, the injury or maiming of nearly 90,000 people, and countless crimes against humanity gave a defiant and unrepentant speech, vowing to continue the war until achieving "total victory" over Hamas, which his own military has already publicly said is impossible. Netanyahu pushed back against ICC claims that Israel is deliberately targeting civilians even though major news outlets have confirmed that Israel regularly bombs the humanitarian safe zones that they themselves designated. His condescending attitude to the protests against the unspeakable acts of murder being carried out by his government was made clear when he quipped that "Jews for Palestine are like chickens for KFC." Several Democrats blasted the speech, which was very evidently aimed at a pro-Trump audience, after its conclusion. "We didn’t hear anything about peace...You had one narcissistic, indicted right-wing autocrat coming over here to speak to the followers of another narcissistic, right-wing, autocrat," said Rep. Jamie Raskin.
Rupert Murdoch in secret legal battle with children over media empire
In a struggle that would be very familiar to a tenth-century European ruler, right-wing archfiend Rupert Murdoch is locked in a legal struggle to ensure that his chosen heir, Lachlan Murdoch, inherits sole control of his (media) empire...because the other three kids aren't racist enough. Seriously! The Guardian reports that Murdoch is is arguing that Lachlan's extreme far-right political beliefs (of racism) are "essential to maintaining the value of the right-leaning media company," which in this case includes white supremacy factory Fox "News," the wildly racist sloprag "New York Post" and the Wall Street Journal, the newspaper of choice for monocled men who call black men "boy" and have business interests in Congolese nickel mines worked by child slaves. His legal effort is being spearheaded by none other than Trump's former attorney general William Barr, because of course it is.
Trump told nephew to let his disabled son die, then move to Florida, book says
Fred C Trump III, the son of Donald Trump's older brother Fred Trump, is coming out with a new book that details not only an incident of Trump saying the n-word (of course) but another, equally horrifying anecdote in which Trump told him to let his disabled son die. “‘I don’t know. He doesn’t recognise you. Maybe you should just let him die and move down to Florida,'" said Trump in a 2020 phone call with his nephew. According to Fred, this was not the first time Trump had voiced this line of thinking, apparently telling disabled advocates in an Oval Office meeting that “‘Those people …The shape they’re in, all the expenses, maybe those kinds of people should just die.’” Trump's disgust for the disabled is well known, having openly mocked a disabled journalist at one of his rallies in 2016, but this showcases a whole new level of dehumanization.
JD Vance did not have sex with a couch
Congratulations to the couch. The Associated Press has issued an unusual fact check, disproving the mega-viral claim that JD Vance wrote about consummating an unholy union with his couch in his book, Hillbilly Elegy. It is indeed false, but that hasn't stopped social media from running wild with the meme. But the rapidity and fervor of the claim's virality does prove one thing, as Twitter user Gina Hogan pointed out: "the best part of the JD Vance couch rumor is that it proves that while millions of people bought Hillbilly Elegy, very few could actually get through it." Hamas hostage family members arrested and protesters pepper-sprayed in crackdown on anti-Netanyahu protesters
Netanyahu smeared the protestors against Israel's murderous war in Gaza as "useful idiots for Iran" in his speech, which includes the familiy members of the hostages currently being held by Hamas who were protesting both in Tel Aviv and in the US Capitol building. Six family members were arrested by US Capitol police and pepper spray was used to brutalize other protesters who were furious that the US Congress was celebrating a man currently wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes.

For the union makes us strong!
And in other news
Hope...
