John,

Once every ten years, we embark on a mission to count every person. Well, I’ve got some bad news — Texas is lagging behind in the Census count.

This may not seem like a big deal but the Census is critical to determine funding for our federal programs, how many congressional seats Texas receives, and much more. Our safety net funding—billions and billions of dollars—depends on our Census response.

This Census year has seen a lot of difficulty. First, the Trump administration tried to sabotage the Census by adding xenophobic questions that, all the experts agreed, would hurt its accuracy. Now, we are living through a global pandemic that makes in-person counting impossible. This reality makes counting poor, rural, and minority communities especially difficult.

That is why we are working to help boost Census participation. Fill out the Census today! [[link removed]]

This issue is so important that we are hosting a livestream today with Alice Yi. Alice is a leader in the AAPI Complete Count committee, working to ensure that every community is represented in the Census count, and to guarantee federal funding for essential programs. Alice is also involved in local efforts to acquire PPE for health professionals and other essential workers.

Join us today at 12:30CT to hear about this important work and how we can support it! [[link removed]]
