It's simple: No one should have to choose between their health and having their voice heard at the ballot box.
But earlier this month, folks in Wisconsin were forced to do just that.
In Ohio, we postponed our primary election until April 28th to protect voters from the spread of the coronavirus. But in Wisconsin, those efforts were blocked and voters had to choose whether to sacrifice their health in long and crowded polling place lines or to sacrifice their votes.
We can't let that happen in November.
We urgently need to expand vote-by-mail and increase early voting everywhere before the election in November. Will you sign our petition and call on our leaders to take action NOW?
Voting is a fundamental right. It's the foundation of our democracy.
We need to do everything we can to protect Americans' voting rights. That's why as Ohio's secretary of state, I asked McDonald's to print millions of voter registration forms on its trays.
Now, we not only need to ensure that everyone can exercise their right to vote; we need to make sure they can do so safely.
The majority of Americans of voting age -- both Democrats and Republicans alike -- support a requirement for everyone to have access to mail-in ballots this year, to keep Americans safe. It shouldn't be controversial -- but President Trump is ginning up false accusations about the security of mail-in ballots to suppress votes.
We need to put pressure on our leaders to take action to protect Americans' voting rights and their health. Will you sign our petition and call for expanded vote-by-mail and early voting before November?
With gratitude,
Sherrod
