Reflections & Exciting Updates about the Mosaic Project!
If you’ve been keeping up with MPV’s social media, then you’ll know that Muslims for Progressive Values recently put on Phase
1 of our latest Advocacy Through The Arts ( [link removed] ) program, The Mosaic Project ( [link removed] ). Phase 1 of the Mosaic Project offered Muslims for Progressive Values
the chance to convene local scholars, cultural producers, activists, musicians, and nonprofit representatives in an
exploration of how music manifests in existing Muslim communities in Los Angeles (and nationwide), and how American Muslim
cultural producers understand and interpret their various diverse traditions in the musical work they listen to, create and
produce.
Ahead of the event, a six-member cohort made up of historians and musicians of diverse cultural backgrounds gathered over the
months to co-create original pieces and produce works that stretched our musical expressions, while staying anchored in our
heritage.
One of these artists, Farah Mitha, recorded a video sharing her reflections of what the Mosaic Project meant to her both as
an artist and a Muslim.

Like Farah, I feel gratitude for the power that music and art have to transform the lives of individuals and at the same
time, facilitate cultural pathways for American Muslims to engage in difficult debates, share creatively, and contribute as
individuals outside of public portrayals of the community. That’s why The Mosaic Project is becoming a permanent program of
MPV’s Advocacy Through The Arts initiative. It’s our goal to bring the Mosaic Project to cities across the country, gathering
local artists, creators, musicians, and cultural historians together to nourish brains and hearts together.
If this is something that you’d like to support, I encourage you to make a donation to our ongoing Mosaic Project fundraiser

With gratitude,
Ani Zonneveld
