Visit to Butler, PA

On July 13, 2024, there was an assassination attempt on the life of President Donald J. Trump. The American people deserve answers on the failures of the Secret Service, and I am working to get those answers. I was in Pennsylvania on Monday to meet with local law enforcement and see the rally site firsthand. After surveying the rally site, it is clear to me that the assassination attempt can only be described as a colossal failure. It was a failure in planning, execution, and leadership. We now know that the Secret Service repeatedly denied requests for additional resources to protect President Trump. This is unacceptable. We will continue to work to get the answers President Trump and the American people deserve. See me on the ground in Butler, Pennsylvania, here.

Hearing on the Trump Assassination Attempt

This week we began our hearings to investigate the first assassination attempt in over 40 years. I questioned Colonel Christopher L. Paris, the Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police, and Patrick Yoes, the National President of the Fraternal Order of Police.

I noted in my questioning that, “The Secret Service director, prior to her resignation, said that she did not put anybody on the roof because it had a sloped roof that would have created a safety concern. I was in Butler, Pennsylvania, yesterday with many members of this committee. My fellow member, Carlos Gimenez, who, is 70 years old…. There's video of him easily traversing the roof, walking across the roof. Even though he is some 50 years older than the shooter.” Watch my exchange here:
