John,

I want to thank the Kansas Democratic Party for putting together another great Demofest. It was a great turnout, and Kansas Democrats are gearing up to continue to grow and strengthen our party.

In 2018, you elected me to be your governor. You all helped so much in this election. And Kansans spoke loudly and clearly, they were ready for change.

We had a groundbreaking year reaching out to Kansans and hearing their concerns. We knocked on 175,000 doors, made over 225,000 phone calls, and sent nearly 150,000 text messages. It was the first step toward slamming the door on the last eight years of failed leadership from the Brownback-Colyer administration.

On Inauguration Day, January 14, I stood on the south steps of the state capitol in front of three banners. Equality… Education… Opportunity.

I made a promise, a promise to rebuild our state, to bring us out of the shadows of the past, and to put Kansas back on the map. This has been my guiding principle, and it will continue to be for the duration of my administration.

Make no mistake, we’ve made progress this year. This past legislative session was a true victory for all Kansans. As we continue to look ahead at our future as Kansans, I will continue to fight to move our state forward.

I will continue to fight for access to affordable healthcare. I will continue to fight for our children’s safety in and out of the classroom. And I will continue to fight for our LGBTQ community.

Thank you for standing with me. Now let’s bring Kansas out of the shadows and once again be the forward-thinking state we once were.

Thank you,

Laura Kelly
