** Next Step is changing lives
------------------------------------------------------------
Our Next Step housing collaboration proved itself in the first half of 2024 by moving 150 of our neighbors from shelter to housing. Now we’re replicating the approach outdoors! Camp by camp, we are coordinating with the Anchorage police and health departments so that when a location selected for Next Step is closed, everyone living there is housed with supports tailored to their needs. Funds in hand will help 45 people this summer and fall go from living outdoors to safe, stable housing. This couldn’t work without dedicated partners including property owners willing to lease units. If you want to get involved, learn how here ([link removed]) .
Here’s a roundup of recent Next Step stories:
* Why property owners take a chance on unhoused neighbors ([link removed]) : Thao Le’s experience growing up on the edge underscores why she rents to those who have lost so much.
* Next Step outdoors: ‘We’re all moving up’ ([link removed]) : A veteran finds a home.
* Big steps for our unsheltered neighbors ([link removed]) : One man remembered what his daughter told him. “It’s never too late.”

** Case conferencing meetings: Working together to help our neighbors
------------------------------------------------------------
One way we assist our unhoused neighbors is by hosting regular case conferencing, which serve as a platform for sharing vital information about clients' situations, whereabouts, challenges and assets.
These meetings provide a space for local service providers and case managers to work together as they help clients find the best housing and programs for their needs. Each meeting is tailored for a specific population, ensuring that the most knowledgeable local experts are in the room to provide tailored support and resources for each person.

** Addressing youth homelessness

Let’s celebrate a win that will help Alaska youth! The Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness teamed up with the Alaska Coalition on Housing and Homelessness on a new grant opportunity benefiting youth across our state, and the result is the maximum $2 million over two years. Hear from the Alaska coalition’s Brian Wilson on this new project.

** Street outreach and mobile medicine services for unsheltered clients
------------------------------------------------------------
In partnership with SALA medics, our street outreach teams provide access to medical supplies and care to unsheltered clients reached during pop-up events and visits to camps. Street medicine bridges the gap in access, building trust and ultimately improving health outcomes for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

** VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT
------------------------------------------------------------
We appreciate the volunteers who help us help our unsheltered neighbors. Every two weeks, a group gathers at the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness to create kits that provide food, hygiene items, first aid and more for those living in tents or vehicles or anyplace not meant for human habitation. Some volunteers are regulars, others come once or twice. We welcome all the support! Click here to sign up ([link removed]) .
Enjoy this time lapse short video ([link removed]) that shows how easy it is to make kits with helpers! Thanks to one of our regular volunteers, for the video and for helping so often!
