Dear Friend,
I wanted to update you on some great news regarding the future of the Belvidere Assembly Plant.
Recently, the U.S. Department of Energy announced that the plant was awarded over $334 million in federal funding from the Inflation Reduction Act to assist and accelerate its reopening as a new electric vehicle production facility. In a major victory for workers, this project will create over 1,400 good-paying union jobs at the plant.
From the moment the Belvidere Assembly Plant was idled in early 2023, I’ve worked closely with Governor Pritzker and leaders from all levels of government to get the plant back online and workers back on the job. One of my top priorities was ensuring the assembly plant qualified for all possible federal incentives, including this $334 million grant from the Department of Energy. With the support and solidarity from UAW workers throughout the country, I’m thrilled that we were able to secure a bright economic future for Belvidere.
Saving the Belvidere Assembly Plant is a victory for our entire state, and I am proud of the work we did to make it happen. I will always defend the economic security of the communities I am honored to represent.
As always, my office is here to serve you. If you need assistance dealing with a federal agency or would like to bring an issue to my attention, please contact me at one of the numbers listed below.
Sincerely,
Bill Foster Member of Congress
