Star Tribune Op-ed:
Why noncitizen voting is not an issue in Minnesota.
|
John,
As Secretary of State, it’s my job to ensure that our voting is safe and secure. We now have even more evidence it is!
Virgil Wiebe, a professor at the University of St. Thomas School of Law, wrote an op-ed published in the Star Tribune about why Minnesota does not have a noncitizen voting issue. It’s based on his study of 13.4 million votes cast by Minnesotans since 2015. He found only 3(!) proven cases of noncitizen voting. This is good news - and unsurprising.
Minnesota does not have a noncitizen voting problem. Period.
In fact, our election system has thrived by focusing on security measures that make sense. That's why our elections enjoy the voter confidence that leads to the highest turnout in the nation.
We’re less than a month until the primary and it’s critical that we have the resources to ensure that voters have the right information about voting in Minnesota. To do that, we need to raise another $5,000 this week to continue our work. Will you chip in $5 or more today?
