Fellow American,
This might not be the conversation topic you’d expect from a pro-family and family-friendly organization like the American Principles Project.
But it’s an important conversation for us to have so we can take action to protect our families and our kids.
There’s one industry that wants to use the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic for their own gain and hurt our families in the process: Big Porn.
Chief among those businesses is Pornhub, a website that has created a global pornography empire that generated millions of dollars in America last year. Now Pornhub has used the coronavirus pandemic as a pretext to offer its “premium content” at no cost to users anywhere in the world.
Some media outlets have treated the story as if it’s a joke. Other people think concern about online pornography during the tragic coronavirus pandemic is trivial.
But 16 U.S. states have deemed online pornography to be a public health crisis for a reason.
It can be addictive, and over time, viewers can be desensitized to sexual abuse and violence and seek out more extreme videos. According to one analysis, 43% of pornography content was characterized as displaying “visible aggression.”
And, even worse, Big Porn won’t implement even basic age verification tools ... which means online pornography is getting to our kids, too.
As the U.S. Attorney General William Barr said in a January interview, “Any young kid surfing the Internet today can come across some gross stuff, and so-called parental controls aren’t really working.”
The refusal of online pornography sites like Pornhub to implement age verification safeguards has exposed millions of children to sexually explicit videos. By some reports, kids encounter online porn at age 11 on average. That’s both tragic and deeply disturbing.
The Attorney General and the Department of Justice seem to recognize the problem with online pornography … but it will take the effort of concerned citizens to make them prioritize it and take action.
Please join me in signing this petition to the Department of Justice right now. Tell DOJ: protect kids and require Big Porn to implement age verification tools.
It’s time for concerned Americans like you and me to take action and protect our kids from online pornography. We can’t allow Big Porn to take advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to further entrench their obscene material in our society.
