Hi there --
Mondays suck. Here are six current and former RFS candidates who absolutely rule:
-
Qasim Rahid is running to flip a seat in the Virginia State Senate that was last held by a Democrat more than 40 years ago. It's a long shot, but if anyone can do it, this human rights attorney/author/media and book consultant/speaker/husband and father can.
-
Delegate Danica Roem is up for re-election in November. Her opponent? An anti-LGBTQ bigot who called marriage equality "morally repugnant" and said that it was comparable to slavery. The more things change, the more we need to support progressive candidates.
-
Denver City Council Member Candi C'deBaca led -- and won -- the fight to drop for-profit prison companies' contracts with the city of Denver, costing them upwards of $10.6 million.
- Meanwhile, Representative Andrea Romero led the charge on creating a task force to address the crisis of missing and murdered indigenous women in New Mexico, telling a reporter, "We have the talent and expertise in our state to ensure that not one more sister goes missing or murdered."
-
Representative Erin Zwiener is demanding the Texas state legislature hold a special session to take on legislation to reduce gun violence. Horrific fact: last session, House Democrats filed 48 bills related to gun control, and not a single one passed. We only need to flip 9 seats to win the TX state house.
-
Representative Josie Raymond has made the fight to bring universal pre-k state-wide in Kentucky her own. Now, thanks to her, it looks like it might actually happen.
We have candidates on the ballot this fall who can start making a difference as soon as they're sworn in. Donate $10 or whatever you can to help recruit and support the next Qasim, Danica, Candi, Andrea, Erin, or Josie.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
Thanks, and happy Monday!
