Incarcerated people across the country are scared right now, John, and they’re looking to all of us to fight on their behalf.
As COVID-19 continues to spread through prisons and jails, leaders across the country are starting to plan an eventual reopening of the economy and getting things “back to normal.” That won’t work for us.
At Dream Corps #cut50, we don’t want things to go “back to normal.” For people in prison, normal was never good enough. For people formerly incarcerated, normal meant battling that stigma every single day. Yes, we are fighting COVID-19 – but we are also fighting the systemic injustices and inadequacies that enabled it to take so many lives and damage so many families.
That’s why today, we are launching a COVID-19 Dispatch Series dedicated to tackling the biggest threats to our incarcerated population and beyond. Will you be there?
You can RSVP here: [link removed]
We’ll be joined by expert voices across the medical and criminal justice fields to talk through what “better” looks like for our incarcerated neighbors and loved ones. The more communities we bring together for this discussion, the further our vision can stretch. Will you represent your community by joining this crucial conversation at 12 PM PT // 3 PM ET today? Every breakdown can lead to a breakthrough. These next few months will surely bring even greater sets of challenges to our communities but we believe that there is also tremendous opportunity for change. That’s why we’re dreaming up and lifting up the solutions that will bring us toward a better future.
We’re so many things right now: scared, hopeful, frustrated, eager. But we’re going to channel all of that into what we can do in this moment, instead of festering on what we can’t. We hope you’ll join us in doing the same.
See you on today’s call –
The #cut50 team
