Since the start of this campaign, I have been telling my staff to expect “black swans.”

If you’re not familiar with the term, it’s a shorthand used in the intelligence community for a significant event that’s impossible to predict ahead of time. These are moments and events that have important consequences and can cause you to shift your entire strategy. They are low probability, high impact events that force you to think on your feet.

What IS predictable—especially in this era of American politics—is that there will be moments that surprise us.

And although I have been warning my team about black swans for a year now, I couldn’t have anticipated that there would be three of them in just a few weeks: the events at President Trump’s Pennsylvania rally, President Biden’s decision to step down, and now Vice President Harris’ ascension to be the nominee.

But here’s the thing: there will be more black swans between now and November 5th.

Through it all, Team Slotkin prides ourselves on being “Steady Eddies.” There is so much that we cannot control, but amid the chaos and breaking news, we remain focused on our goal: keeping Michigan and this Senate seat blue.

So no matter what you see in the headlines or on social media, you can count on this team to stay focused on the work: knocking doors, sharing our message on TV and advertisements, traveling the state to meet new voters, and all of the million other things that go into a successful race for U.S. Senate in a state like Michigan.

That will redound not only to our benefit, but also to that of other Democrats up and down the ballot, including Vice President Harris. So if you would like to help us keep moving forward and ramp up our efforts, I hope you’ll consider making a donation to my campaign.

Every little bit helps.
