Dear John,
Urgent Report: There have been 5 grinds in the last 8 weeks, resulting in the deaths of 592 pilot whales. There were 3 separate grinds that happened in 1 week alone.
These grinds pose a serious risk to the stability of the pilot whale population and the marine biodiversity that they exist in. As international criticism continues to mount against this practice, Sea Shepherd urges the global community to rally together and demand an end to this unnecessary brutality.
These killings are not classified as commercial. However, Pilot Whale meat is bought and sold on the island and in restaurants.
The Faroese government has rejected signing international conventions that protect whales and dolphins. There are currently no national laws in place that protect this species.
Watch this video to learn more about this senseless slaughter.
We will continue to be present, to document these slaughters and to pressure the EU to provide legal protection for these animals. Join us as we #STOPTHEGRIND.
